BEAUMONT, Texas – The Creighton men's tennis team had its six-match winning streak snapped with a 5-2 loss to Lamar at the Thompson Family Tennis Center on Friday afternoon in Beaumont, Texas.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 13-7 on the season, while the Cardinals improved to 9-11 overall with the win.
"It was the tough match we were expecting," said head coach Gerhard Posch. "It's important that we are playing these matches this weekend. We're keeping our focus on getting better for tomorrow and next week."
Lamar claimed the hard-fought doubles point with wins at the No.1 and No.2 doubles positions. Lamar captured a 6-2 victory on the top doubles court to take and early advantage, only to see junior Alejandro Gandini and sophomore Yuma Daijima level things up with a 6-2 win of their own on the No. 3 doubles court. Lamar, however, rallied for a 7-5 victory at the No.2 doubles spot to secure the first point of the match.
The Cardinals proceeded to claim straight-set victories at the top three singles positions and a three-set win at the No. 4 spot to clinch the overall dual.
Daijima captured the Bluejays first point of the contest, recording a 6-1, 6-4 win on the No. 5 singles court, while senior Shin Inoue picked up a 6-1, 6-3 straight-sets victory at the No. 6 singles spot to close the match.
The Bluejays wrap up the regular season tomorrow afternoon when they take on No. 53 ranked Rice at the George R. Brown Tennis Center at 11 a.m.
