Men’s Tennis Falls to #53 Rice in Regular Season Finale

HOUSTON, Texas – The Creighton men's tennis team ended its regular season with a 7-0 loss at No. 53 ranked Rice at the George R. Brown Tennis Center on Saturday afternoon in Houston, Texas.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 13-8 on the year, while the Owls improved to 15-7 overall.
Rice gained an early 1-0 edge in Saturday's match, claiming a 6-3 win at the No. 1 doubles position and a 6-4 clinching victory at the No. 3 doubles spot. Senior Shin Inoue and sophomore Zachary Kuo were leading 5-4 on the No. 2 doubles court before Rice clinched the first point of the match forcing a stoppage of play.
The Owls continued their success into singles playing clinching the overall dual with straight set victories at the five of the six singles position.
Junior Alejandro Gandini recorded the best performance for the Bluejays at the No. 4 singles spot. After dropping the opening set 7-5, Gandini rallied for a 7-5 victory of his own in the second frame, forcing a decisive three set where he dropped a 10-6 decision.
"Our guys competed really hard today against a really tough Rice team," said head coach Gerhard Posch. "We continued to keep our focus on our progress and our development. We're excited for what's ahead at the BIG EAST Championships next week."
The Bluejays return to the courts next week for the start of the BIG EAST Championships Presented by Jeep in Cayce, South Carolina.
