Women’s Tennis Soars To 7-0 Senior Day Sweep of Midland

OMAHA, Neb. – The Creighton women's tennis team cruised to a 7-0 sweep of Midland during Senior Day on Saturday afternoon at the Koch Family Tennis Center. The Bluejays recognized seniors Malvika Shukla and Jeanne Gearity following the match as part of their senior day festivities.
Picking up their fifth consecutive win, Creighton improved to 14-6 on the year, while Midland fell to 10-5 overall with the loss.
Dominating early on, the Bluejays rolled to a 1-0 lead clinching the doubles point with wins at the top two spots. Senior Malvika Shukla and junior Valerie Negin teamed up for a 6-1 win on the No. 1 doubles court, while sophomore's Annika Elvestrom and Ana Paula Martinez combined for a 6-0 victory at the No. 2 doubles position.
With her win at the top doubles spot, Negin recorded the 100th win of her Bluejay career becoming just the 21st player in Creighton women's tennis history to surpass 100 career wins.
Creighton continued their winning ways into singles action as the Bluejays clinched the overall dual with straight set wins at all six singles positions.
Junior Bianca Rademacher got things started with a 6-1, 6-0 win on the No. 3 singles court, while Negin capped off a 6-0, 6-2 straight sets win at the No. 2 singles position to give the Jays a 3-0 lead.
Junior Allison Wilcox then clinched the match with a 6-2, 6-1 straight-sets win on the No. 5 singles court, before Shukla claimed a 6-3, 6-3 win at the top singles spot.
The Bluejays would then finish the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the No. 4 singles spot by Elvestrom and a 6-1, 6-1 victory at the No. 6 singles spot by Gearity.
Creighton now shifts its attention to the postseason. The Bluejays will travel to Cayce, South Carolina next week for the BIG EAST Tennis Championships presented by Jeep.
