Final Midweek Game Brings Mavericks to Charles Schwab Field Omaha

Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Baseball enters the final week of the 2024 season with a chance to add another midweek victory and sweep the season series from its in-state rivals as the Bluejays host Omaha at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 14 at Charles Schwab Field Omaha.Omaha at Creighton
Scouting the Bluejays (2024: 32-16, 5-12 BIG EAST)
Creighton puts its non-conference (27-4) and midweek (11-0) success on the line for the last time in 2024 as the Bluejays face Omaha on Tuesday, May 14 in the annual Cox Kids Game.
As a team the Bluejays are hitting .293, led individually by Nolan Sailors (.364), Nolan Clifford (.343), Tate Gillen (.327) and Teddy Deters (.310). On the bump the Bluejays have a team ERA of 5.21, with 403 strikeouts.
Scouting the Mavericks (2024: 16-28-1, 14-12-1 BIG EAST)
Omaha dropped two of three over the weekend in a home series with St. Thomas. The Mavericks are just one game out first place in the
Summit League entering the final week of the regular season.
Omaha is hitting .275 as a team, led by Henry Zipay (.342), Tyler Bishop (.315)
and Drew Lechnir (.306). On the mound the Mavericks have a team ERA of 5.81 with 256 strikeouts.
Creighton and Omaha Meet in a Cox Kids Day Game for the Second Consecutive Season
Creighton Baseball faces Omaha in a Cox Kids Day contest for the second consecutive season and third straight game. The Bluejays and Mavericks played on May 16 last season, with Creighton posting a 4-2 win. The Covid-19 pandemic forced the Cox Kids Day to be sidelined during the 2020 and 2021 seasons. However the Bluejays and Maverick also battled in the 2019 season game on May 14, a 13-2 Creighton win.
Bluejays Rally From Down Seven for First Time Since 2001
Facing a 7-0 deficit at Connecticut on Sunday, May 12, Creighton Baseball delivered a comeback not seen since 2001 as the Bluejays scored six runs in the fourth, four in the fifth and four more in the eighth to best the Huskies 14-9. The victory ended the Bluejays' nine-game skid in BIG EAST play and was the first time Creighton rallied to win a game when down seven runs or more since rallying back from a 12-0 deficit to defeat Oklahoma 14-12 on March 6, 2001.
Torosian Explosion
After coming off the bench with a pinch-hit home run on Saturday, May 11, Jack Torosian earned his first start as a Bluejay on Sunday, May 12. He went 1-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored. In the series with the Huskies Torosian was 2-for-6 with four RBI and three runs scored. He entered the weekend 4-for-16 (.250) with two RBI and five runs scored in 25 games this season.
Second Consecutive Missed BIG EAST Tournament
Creighton was officially eliminated from the BIG EAST Tournament with its loss to Connecticut and Xavier's victory on Friday, May 10. This marks the second consecutive season the Bluejays will miss the BIG EAST Tournament and the third times overall.
D1Baseball Rankings - Updated
Earlier this season Dominic Cancellieri and Nolan Sailors claimed spots in the top of D1Baseball's position rankings. Cancellieri was slated as the 58th starting pitcher (top 150 ranked), while Sailors earned the 62nd outfielder spot (top 100 ranked).
Those rankings were updated after week 12 (May 9) with Sailors moving up to 52nd and Nolan Clifford earning the 44th shortstop slot (top 50 ranked)
