Baseball Travels to New York for Road Series with St. John's

Queens, New York -- Weather has had a larger impact over the last week of Bluejay Baseball that it has throughout the 2024 season. That impact could extend to Creighton's weekend at St. John's as the series opener has been moved to a 2:00 p.m. start (Originally scheduled for 5:00 p.m.) and the weekend could also be in flux. Regardless of when the games get going Creighton would like to play as though its a midweek contest as the Bluejays are 11-0 in midweek games this season.

Scouting the Bluejays
(2024: 31-11, 4-7 BIG EAST)
Creighton continued to dominate midweek games as the Bluejays moved to 11-0 in midweek games with a 9-5 win over Nebraska on Tuesday.
As a team the Bluejays are hitting .298, led individually by Nolan Sailors (.391), Nolan Clifford (.345) and Teddy Deters (.329). On the bump the Bluejays have a team ERA of 4.89, with 364 strikeouts.
Scouting the Red Storm
(2024: 28-11-1, 8-4 BIG EAST)
The Red Storm enter the weekend on a three game winning streak, taking the final two games at Xavier last weekend and a midweek game from Iona.
St. John's has a team average of .297, led by Blake Mayberry at .389. Three other players boast an average over .300 as Garrett Scavelli is hitting .352, Jimmy Keenan is at .323 and Ben Beauchamp is hitting .315.
Red Storm pitchers have a 4.80 ERA with 297 strikeouts and 190 walks this season.
Good Starts Are Instrumental
The Bluejays have enjoyed great success during the 2024 season, but Creighton can be unstoppable if the Bluejays score first. Creighton is 18-1 when scoring in the first inning and 18-3 when scoring first this season.
Lommel Has Enjoyed Success Against St. John's
Earning his first start since March 6 on Saturday, senior Cade Lommel is hoping his muscle memory against St. John's carries him.
As a freshman Lommel limited St. John's to two runs on seven hits in 5.1 innings with nine strikeouts. During the 2022 season Lommel delivered his longest outing of the season going 7.1 with nine strikeouts allowing just two unearned runs at St. John's.
Combined Lommel has tossed 12.2 innings, allowing four runs (two earned) with 18 strikeouts against St. John's in his career.
Non-Conference Success
Creighton Baseball heads into the weekend with a 27-4 record in non-conference games. The 27 wins are three more than anyone else in the nation this spring. In the last five seasons, only three teams nationally have had 27 non-con wins by Selection Monday.
