Creighton will host three tournaments in 2024
OMAHA, Neb. -- Creighton Volleyball will host two non-conference tournaments to open the fall and the BIG EAST Championships in November as part of its 2024 schedule that was unveiled today by head coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth.
Coming off its first unbeaten home season (13-0) in program history last fall, the Bluejays will host 15 regular-season contests and could add to it as it hosts the BIG EAST Championships for the sixth time (2013, 2015, 2018, Spring 2021, 2022, 2024). Creighton has also hosted NCAA Tournament action in 2017, 2018, 2021, 2022 and 2023.
Creighton hosts the Blue-White Scrimmage on August 16 inside D.J. Sokol Arena, where fans can get their first look at the 2024 squad. Eight days later the Bluejays take on Colorado State for an exhibition match in Fort Collins, Colo.
The regular-season opens from Aug. 30-Sept. 1 with the Bluejay Invitational, which also features Drake, Missouri and NC State. It's the first time since 2010 that CU will open a non-COVID season at home. Creighton remains at home a few days later to host the Creighton Classic, which includes new Big Ten member USC (Sept. 5) and Kansas State (Sept. 7).
The Bluejays' lone standalone non-conference match of the season comes on September 10th when Creighton visits Nebraska. The Cornhuskers were swept in the 2023 national championship match and have reached the national semifinals in six of the last nine years.
Creighton begins a four-year tournament with Rice, Louisville and Northern Iowa this season, with the first rendition of the event taking place from Sept. 13-15 in Louisville, Ky.
The Bluejays close non-conference play in Lawrence, Kan., for matches at the Jayhawk Classic against Purdue (Sept. 20) and host Kansas (Sept. 21).
Creighton's quest for an 11th straight BIG EAST regular-season title begins on Sept. 27 & 29 when Providence and Connecticut come to Omaha. It's just the second regular-season trip for both schools to Omaha since 2019.
Creighton will face Marquette and Butler the first week of October (Oct. 1-6), as well as the second week of November (Nov. 5-10), though exact dates and sites of those matches will be finalized later this summer.
CU hits the road in BIG EAST action for the first time with trips to Villanova (Oct. 11) and St. John's (Oct. 12). The meeting at Carnesecca Arena will be a rematch of CU's 3-0 sweep of the Red Storm in the title match of the 2023 BIG EAST Championship.
The Bluejays are back home on Oct. 18 (Xavier) and Oct. 20 (DePaul) before closing the month at Georgetown (Oct. 25) and Seton Hall (Oct. 26).
CU hopes to build on its 37-match home win streak in November when it welcomes St. John's (Nov. 1) and Villanova (Nov. 3) to Omaha to begin the final month of the regular-season. After the aforementioned matches versus Marquette and Butler, CU hosts its final home weekend of the regular-season as it squares off against Seton Hall (Nov. 15) and Georgetown (Nov. 17).
The Bluejays close the regular-season on the road with matches at DePaul (Nov. 22) and at Xavier (Nov. 24).
Creighton finished the 2023 season with a 29-5 record, reaching the program's third Sweet 16 since 2015 in addition to earning a 10th straight BIG EAST regular-season title. The Bluejays are coached by Kirsten Bernthal Booth and return 2023 BIG EAST Player of the Year Kendra Wait and 2022 BIG EAST Player of the Year Norah Sis as well as Ava Martin, who was recently selected as one of 19 collegiate athletes for USA Volleyball's 2024 Women's Collegiate National Team that will train alongside the US Olympic Team in Anaheim, Calif., starting later this month.
