Creighton is nation’s only team with both programs owning a GPA over 3.75.
OMAHA, Neb. -- The Creighton men's track team has been honored for having the top GPA in the country, while the women had the third-highest mark. Both squads garnered U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Team recognition on Monday.
The Bluejay men owned a nation-leading 3.77 GPA, while Creighton's women earned a collective 3.80 GPA to take third place. Creighton was the nation's only school with both genders owning a 3.75 GPA or better as well as the only school with both men's and women's teams in the top 10 of their respective genders. CU's combined GPA for both programs also led the nation.
Creighton had three men own a perfect 4.0 GPA in the spring, and 13 men have a 3.87 cumulative GPA or better. The CU women also had three student-athletes with a 4.0 GPA in the spring and 12 student-athletes with a 3.76 cumulative GPA or better.
The academic recognition is nothing new for the Bluejay track programs. The Creighton men also won the academic national championship in 2022 and were second in 2023. The women tied for first last season and were second in 2022 before this year's third-place showing.
Â
Overall, there were 239 women's teams and 179 men's track programs that received All-Academic honors in NCAA Division I for the 2024 season. In order to qualify for All-Academic distinction, teams must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale, including the most recent grading period.
"We are really proud of our student athletes and their continued academic success, while writing history on the track," said head coach Chris Gannon. "The academic success of our program over the last six years and beyond, speaks to the culture that has been established. Our goal since the beginning has been to recruit and develop outstanding young men and women who will be successful at Creighton and beyond."
Coached by Gannon, the Creighton track programs made their first appearance in the BIG EAST Championships in May.
