SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Six different Bluejays advanced to their singles main draw finals as the Creighton women's tennis team post 15 singles wins and three doubles victories during the first day of competition at the Augustana Invite in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Saturday, Sept. 14.
The Bluejays' weekend trip to South Dakota marked the beginning of the 2024 fall schedule.
"We had a good start to the fall season," said head coach Tom Lilly. "Ten hours at the tennis courts can wear on anyone, but we finished strong and are looking forward to competing hard tomorrow."
The pair of Valerie Negin and Bianca Rademacher got the Bluejays started, advancing to the No. 1 Doubles Main Draw Semifinals with an 8-4 victory of Minnesota State-Mankato's Freia Lawrence and Avery Stilwell.
Freshmen duo Karli Vo and Olivia Minikel picked up their first collegiate win on Saturday, taking down Augustana's Chelse Seidewitz and Smilte Bakyte, 8-6, to advance to the No. 2 Doubles Draw Semifinals, while Alem Cote and Elsa Jurrens teamed up for an 8-4 win in the No. 3 Doubles Draw against MSU-Mankota's Brynn Psooy and Hana Minisy.
In singles play, Rademacher rolled into the No. 1 Singles Main Draw Finals, capturing a pair of straight set victories over North Dakota's Andrea Pineda (6-2, 6-0) and Omaha's Zoe Adkins (6-4, 6-2).
Junior Ana Paula Martinez advanced to the finals in the No. 2 Singles Main Draw, defeating Sioux Fall's Chloe Siegfort in straight sets, 6-1, 6-2, before topping North Dakota's Nore Heinitz, 4-6, 6-2, 10-5 in the semifinals.

Vo and Jurrens each advanced to the finals of the No. 6 Singles Main Draw but will not battle each other tomorrow in the finals. Vo took down USF's Sydney Osburn, 6-2, 6-3, in the quarterfinals, before cruising to a 6-2, 6-0 victory over North Dakota's Manon Hallemans in the semifinals. Jurrens had a tougher road, claiming a 6-2, 6-3 straight sets win over Winona State's Elysia Beynon and a 6-1, 1-6, 12-10 three-set win over UND's Alyssa Giupponi in the semifinals.
Negin, Cote and Annika Elvestrom each dropped their first singles match of the day but did advance to the consolation finals of each of their draws. Negin and Elvestom advanced by default, while Cote defeated MSU-Mankato's McKenna DeMarce, 6-4, 6-4, to advance in her draw.
