SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – The Creighton women's tennis team secured one doubles title and four singles main draw titles at the Augustana Invite as the Bluejays concluded play in Sioux Falls, S.D. on Sunday.
"We performed well overall for our first fall tournament," said head coach Tom Lilly. "We let a couple of doubles matches get away from us today, so that was disappointing, but we came through with several close singles wins. Hopefully we can use this momentum next weekend at a tough Minnesota tournament."
Seniors Bianca Rademacher and Valerie Negin earned the No. 1 doubles main draw championship, claiming a pair of 8-4 victories over North Dakota's Jule Schulte and Linn Svaerd, as well as Omaha's Paula Arcarons and Zoe Adkins.
Freshmen Karli Vo and Olivia Minikel took down MSU-Mankato's Taina Cordeiro and McKenna DeMarce, 8-2, in the semifinals of the No. 2 doubles main draw, but fell to North Dakota's Ethel Li and Aziza Aubin, 8-5, in the main draw finals.
Annika Elvestrom and Philippa Roy also earned a 9-8 (7-5) win over UND's Nore Heinitz and Andrea Pineda in the consolation semifinals but suffered an 8-5 defeat to MSU-Mankato's Freia Lawrence and Avery Stilwell in the consolation finals.
Singles play proved to be more successful for the Bluejays as four different individuals captured main draw championships, and three others claimed consolation titles.
Rademacher secured the No. 1 main draw championship with a 6-3, 6-0 straight sets victory over Augustana's Mia Garcia, while Ana Paula Martinez captured the No. 2 main draw title with a 6-1, 6-4 win over Omaha's Arcarons.
Minikel followed by claiming the No. 4 Singles main draw title with a 6-3, 6-1 straight-sets victory over Omaha's Nina Wiese, with Vo securing the No. 6 singles main draw championship with a 6-0, 7-5 straight-sets win of her own over UND's Alyssa Giupponi.
Negin also earned the No. 1 singles consolation title with a 3-6, 6-3, 10-0 victory over Mankato's Lawrence, while Elvestrom took down Sioux Falls' Chloe Siegfort, 4-6, 6-1, 10-1 in the No. 2 singles consolation finals and Alem Cote picked up a 6-3, 7-6 (7-4) straight-sets win over Omaha's Keegan VanPelt in the No. 5 consolation title match.
The Bluejays continue their fall schedule on Friday, September 20 when they travel to Minneapolis, Minn. for the Minnesota Invite.
