Bluejay Men's Soccer Stumbles in BIG EAST Opener, Falling 1-0 to Georgetown

Omaha, Neb. -- Creighton Men's Soccer pushed its scoreless streak into the second half, but Georgetown eventually found the back of the net to defeat teh Bluejays 1-0 on Friday, September 20.
The loss moved the Bluejays to 4-2-2 on the season and 0-1-0 in BIG EAST action, while Georgetown moved to 3-2-3 overall and 1-0-0 in conference play.
Creighton controlled possession throughout much of the opening 30 minutes, however the Hoyas defense limited the Bluejays to just three shots. As the opening half moved into the final third, Georgetown surged to a 6-5 shot lead as the two teams went to the locker room.
Bluejay goalkeeper Blake Gillingham's career-high scoreless streak of just under 272 minutes (271:58) came to a close as the Hoyas punched in a goal via a crossing shot from Matthew Van Horn in the 70th minute (69:05).
Creighton appeared to have found the equalizer at least twice in the final 10 minutes, however Georgetown goalkeeper Tenzing Menske denied the Bluejays each time.
Menske closed the game with six saves, while Gillingham claimed two.
The Bluejays fired off 15 shots in the contest, while the Hoyas had 11. Creighton also created twice as many corners as Georgetown, earned eight to four for Georgetown.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Saturday, September 28 as the Bluejays head east to face Providence in a road contest at 6:00 p.m.
