Women’s Tennis Overpowers Lindenwood in 6-1 Victory

ST. CHARLES, Mo. – The Creighton women's tennis team snagged the doubles point and overpowered Lindenwood in singles on the way to a 6-1 victory on Friday afternoon at the Vetta West Tennis Center in St. Charles, Mo.
The Bluejays improved to 5-2 on the year with the win, while the Lions fell to 1-3 with the loss.
Creighton edged out Lindenwood with victories on the No. 1 and No. 3 doubles courts to earn the first point of the match. The Lions took an early advantage in doubles earning a 6-0 victory on the No. 2 doubles court, before seniors Valerie Negin and Bianca Rademacher battled to a 7-6 (7-5) win at the top doubles position. Freshmen Alem Cote and Karli Vo then clinched the doubles point with a tight 7-6 (8-6) win on the No. 3 doubles court.
Entering singles play with a 1-0 lead, the Bluejays quickly clinched the overall dual, claiming straight-set victories on the No. 1, No. 2 and No. 6 singles court.
Rademacher coasted to a 6-0, 6-1 triumph at the top singles spot, improving to an impressive 6-0 in singles play this spring. Cote followed with her fifth consecutive singles win, claiming a 6-0, 6-4 victory on the No. 6 singles court.
Negin would then clinch the overall dual with a 6-3, 6-2 win at the No. 2 singles position, before junior Annika Elvestrom captured a 6-1, 6-2 victory in her return to the court from a back injury.
Lindenwood picked up their lone win of the day as Michelle Trochez topped Ana Paula Martinez, 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 on the No. 3 singles court, before freshman Philippa Roy pulled out a 6-3, 7-6 (8-6) straight-set victory on the No. 4 singles court to secure the 6-1 win for the Bluejays.
Creighton remains on the road, traveling to battle Western Illinois on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the Lakeside Recreation Facility in Galesburg, Ill.
