OMAHA, Neb. – Creighton women's soccer head coach Jimmy Walker announced Tuesday that seniors Abigail Santana and Ella Offer, as well as junior Savanna Solomon have been named team captains for the 2025 season.
"I am very happy to announce Abigail, Ella and Savanna as captains for the upcoming year," Walker said. "These three embody the characteristics and attributes of what it takes to be captain for this team. Captains who are the best suited to hold the captain title are selected in a joint venture between their teammates as well as the coaching and support staff and we are really pleased with the three captains for the upcoming year and are excited to keeping moving the program forward."
Entering her sixth season with the Bluejays, Santana has proven to be an essential part of the Bluejays success. Serving as a captain for the previous two seasons, Santana was sidelined with a season-ending knee injury last season. A native of Marion, Iowa, Santana has started in 57 of the 59 games she has appeared in as a Bluejay, collecting 14 goals and eight assists in 4,856 total minutes. She was a BIG EAST All-Tournament Team selection in 2022, a College Sports Communicators Academic All-District honoree in 2023 and is a four-time BIG EAST All-Academic Team honoree the last four years.
"Abigail Santana was already in place, embodying everything that a captain needs to be," added Walker. "She works really hard, keeps herself fit, leads by example on and off the field and is a really good role model in the community. She is a vocal leader who holds herself, her teammates and the coaching staff to a very high standard. These are very huge attributes that have helped with the leadership and the culture of Creighton women's soccer over the past several years."
Closing out her first year at Creighton, Offer served as an instrumental piece of Creighton's backline in 2024. The Rochester Hills, Mich. native, started all 17 matches in her first season with the Bluejays, logging 1,491 total minutes of a possible 1,530 minutes, while recording five total shots last spring. In addition to her success on the pitch, Offer excelled in the classroom, earning CSC Academic All-District honors.
"Ella Offer has only been with the program for 12 months, but she has always had excellent leadership characteristics," stated Walker. "It's not enough to just lead by example because you do have to be a vocal leader, and Ella has stepped into the role this off-season. She does all the little details right, is one of the fittest players on the team and one of the most competitive and hardest working players on field. She is good at bringing the team together and talking to players outside of soccer. Like Abigail, she models good behavior on and off the field, in the classroom and around the community and is not scared to hold her teammates and coaches accountable."
Solomon, a Papillion, Neb. native, has been a starter in each of her first two years with the Bluejays. She has played in 26 career games, accumulating 1,791 minutes of action and nine total shots along the Bluejays backline. A central defender, Savannah has also been successful in the classroom, earning a spot on the BIG EAST All-Academic Team each of the last two years.
"Savanna has been very good being vocal on and off the pitch," said Walker. "She is a huge competitor and embodies the characteristics and attributes of what it takes to be a captain. She models good behavior on and off the field, is an excellent role model for those in the community and excels in her academics."
The newly named captains will lead their team into the new season, when the Bluejays open the 2025 spring season with a Blue/White scrimmage inside Morrison Stadium on March 23 at 4 p.m.
