Softball Drops Series Finale With Seattle, 8-0

COUNCIL BLUFFS, Iowa – The Creighton softball team dropped its series finale with Seattle, 8-0, in five innings on Saturday morning at the Iowa Western Softball Complex in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
The Bluejays fell to 11-15 on the year with the loss, while the Redhawks improved to 20-9 overall.
After a pair of scoreless innings to open the contest, Seattle plated six runs on five hits and one Bluejay error to open up a 6-0 lead. Mikke Morris opened the frame with a leadoff walk before scoring the first run of the game on an RBI double into the left center field gap from Taylor Fitch. One out later, Nicola Simpson laced an RBI triple into the right center field gap to give the Redhawks a 2-0 lead. Karen Spadafora then recorded an RBI single through the left side to push the lead out to 3-0, before a three-run blast from Bella Ely extended the advantage out to 6-0.
The Redhawks would add to their lead in the top half of the fourth when Fitch homered to deep left, before capping off the run-rule victory with an RBI single through the right side from Ely in the fifth.
Seattle's Nicola Simpson (7-3) earned her seventh win of the season, striking out two in five shutout innings in the circle. Fitch, Simpson, Johnson and Ely each recorded two hits in the contest, while Ely collected a career-high four RBI for the Redhawks.
Junior Erika Perez led the Bluejays offensively with two hits, while Bluejay starter Kenzie Schopfer (0-5) suffered her fifth loss of the season, allowing four runs on four hits and three walks with one strikeout in 2.2 innings of work.
The Bluejays return to action on Monday afternoon at 4 p.m. when they host St. Thomas at the Iowa Western Softball Complex.
