Power Outage Suspends Power-Filled Softball Nightcap

In a game that featured 12 combined homers -- seven by UConn -- the contest was halted due to a power outage after a bank of lights at the CU Sports Complex went out. After the delay stretched for more than 15 minutes, the decision was made to resume the action on Saturday.
UConn was leading 21-18 at the time of the stoppage, as each team had scored in each half-inning to this point. The game will resume with Heidi Barber batting with two outs and nobody on base in the top of the sixth against CU reliever Kenzie Schopfer.
Creighton never led in the contest, surrendering nine runs in the top of the first inning, but did eventually claw within one run after five innings.
It's already the highest-scoring game in Creighton Softball history.
UConn's Kaitlyn Breslin walked in her first at bat and homered in the second, third, fifth and sixth innings to tie an NCAA single-game record with four home runs. Breslin has seven RBI, as does teammate Grace Jenkins, who is a triple shy of the cycle.
Among Creighton's five home runs are grand slams by both Sydra Seville and Kaelan Schultz.. Seville has scored a team-best three times and joined Sydney Potter with three hits to pace CU. Potter has a career-high five RBI and is due up third in the bottom of the sixth.
After the suspended game is completed, the teams are scheduled to wrap-up the three-game series 30 minutes after the completion of game two on Saturday now set to be streamed on FloSports.Â
