Rocky McKenzie Nabs BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week

OMAHA, Neb. --Â Creighton men's tennis freshman Rocky McKenzie has been named the BIG EAST Male Singles Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday, March 31.

This marks the first BIG EAST weekly award of McKenzie's career. This also marks the Bluejays fourth BIG EAST Singles Player of the Week award this season as Yuma Dajima has been recognized twice and Alejandro Gandini has earned the honor once. Â

McKeznie went a perfect 3-0 this week in singles, guiding the Bluejays to a 7-0 victory over Marquette on Friday.Â

The standout freshman opened the weekend with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Marquette's Remi St. Laurent on Friday, before capturing a 6-1, 6-2 straight sets win over North Dakota's Ethan Terry on Saturday. The Sioux Falls, S.D. native then closed out the week with a 7-6 (7-4), 6-2 straight sets win over UND's Andrew Hayduke II in Sunday's rematch with North Dakota.Â

McKenzie is playing his best tennis of the season, picking up wins in each of his last six singles matches, including three over BIG EAST opponents while holding a 13-4 overall record in singles this season.Â

McKenzie and the rest of the Bluejays return to the court on Friday, April 4, when they take on Wichita State at 1 p.m. in Wichita, Kan.Â
