Women’s Tennis Coasts To 6-1 Victory Over Bradley
3/7/2025 5:32:00 PM | Women's Tennis
OMAHA, Neb. – Early success in singles play guided the Creighton women's tennis team to a 6-1 victory over Bradley on Friday afternoon at the Hanscom Tennis Center.
The win lifted the Bluejays to 7-5 on the year, snapping a three-match losing skid. Bradley, however, dropped to 1-8 overall with the loss.
"I felt we competed well when we needed to today," head coach Tom Lilly said. "We got off to a slower start in doubles but handled it well and then had some strong singles play using our depth once again today. Hopefully this gives a few players some confidence moving into outdoor play next week in Orlando, Fla."
With Bradley only having five healthy players the Bluejays quickly took a 1-0 lead, earning a default win on the No. 3 court, before Annika Elvestrom and Olivia Minikel clinched the doubles point with a 6-3 win on the No. 2 doubles court. Senior's Valerie Negin and Bianca Rademacher were also leading 4-3 at the top doubles spot, before the Jays clinched the first point of the day.
Creighton quickly secured the overall dual, capturing straight set victories on the No. 1, No. 2, No. 4 and No.5 singles court. In addition, the Bluejays also picked up a default win on the No. 6 singles court to claim the 6-1 victory.
Elvestrom opened singles play with a quick 6-1, 6-1 triumph on the No. 2 singles court, before Negin clinched the overall dual with a 6-1, 6-4 win at the top singles spot. Freshman Karli Vo followed with a 6-3, 6-3 victory at the No. 5 singles position, before fellow classmate Alem Cote claimed a 6-4, 6-3 win on the No. 4 singles court.
Bradley's lone win of the day came on the No. 3 singles court as Ruby Tseng overcame a one set deficit to defeat Minikel, 5-7, 7-5, 10-5 in a three-set tiebreaker.
Creighton returns to the courts on Tuesday, March 11 in Orlando, Fla. when they take on Fairleigh Dickinson at 2:00 p.m. CT.
