Men's Golf Remains Fourth at BIG EAST Championships

Feldman and Gerch in Top 10
OKATIE, S.C. -- Creighton remained in fourth place at the BIG EAST Men's Golf Championships Presented by JEEP on Sunday and stands just 14 shots out of first place heading into Monday's final round. The Bluejays moved within a shot of the lead near the midway point of the round after shooting 6-under on the front nine, but could not replicate that success on the challenging back nine at Callawassie Island Golf Club.
Freshman Gavin Gerch turned in CU's best round of the day with a 69. He birdied the first, third, ninth and 15th holes to earn his ninth round of par or better this season. The Lincoln native climbed 10 spots up the leaderboard on Sunday and is now in a tie for seventh place after 36 holes with a 142 total.
Grant Feldman birdied four of the first eight holes on Sunday to temporarily move into first place and ended with a 1-under 71. He's in a tie for fourth place with a 3-under total of 141 after two days.
Freshman Henry Kuehne battled to shoot a second consecutive 75 and stands in 40th place with a 150 aggregate.
Sophomore Owen Price posted a pair of birdies and fired a 76. He shares 47th place with a 154 overall.
Rounding out CU's performers on Sunday was Brock Kuhlman. The sophomore was even par through 11 holes before wrapping up a 7-over round of 79. He's in a tie for 35th place at 149 overall heading into Monday's final round.
Connecticut's Alex Heard (71-66=137) owns a narrow lead over Georgetown's Barnes Blake (68-71=139) and Marquette's Johan Widal (71-69=140) heading into Monday's final round. Feldman (70-71=141) is part of a three-way deadlock for fourth place with Seton Hall's George Fricker (70-71=141) and Xavier's Carson Bellish (72-69=141), while Gerch (73-69=142) is tied for seventh with Xavier's Ray Filter (71-71=142).
The nation's No. 46th-ranked team, Marquette shot an 8-under 280 to take over sole possession of the tournament lead by five shots with a 565 total. The Golden Eagles are just ahead of Xavier (287-283=570), Butler (285-290=575) and Creighton (288-291=579). Rounding out the rest of the field is Connecticut (289-291=580), Georgetown (290-291=581), Villanova (294-289=583), Seton Hall (292-293=585), DePaul (297-292=589) and St. John's (301-291=592).
Callawassie Island Golf Club played to a Par 72 on its 6,885 yard layout, with an overall scoring average of 73.34 among the 50-player field on Sunday.
The final round of the BIG EAST Championship begins Monday at 7:30 a.m. Central. The BIG EAST team winner earns an automatic bid to the NCAA Championship. Should the individual champion not be a member of the championship team, he will also earn a spot in the NCAA Championship field as an individual.Â
