Omaha, Neb. -- Building upon his breakout 2025 season, Bluejay catcher Connor Capece earned one of 10 spots on the 2026 Buster Posey Preseason Watch List, announced on Wednesday, February 4.
Capece is the Bluejays top returner after posting a .351 average with 41 RBI and 15 combined extra-base hits last season. He appeared in 50 games for the Bluejays, starting 45. Connor delivered 17 multi-hit games, including six with at least three hits. Capece was at his best in the postseason, going 7-for-12 in the BIG EAST Tournament to lead Creighton back to the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2019. His performance at the BIG EAST Tournament earned Connor the Jack Kaiser Most Outstanding Player (MVP) Award.
The Buster Posey Watch List is updated throughout the 2026 season, with the honor being announced near the Men's College World Series.
Last year's Buster Posey Award winner was Coastal Carolina backstop Caden Bodine. Offensively, Bodine slashed .318/.454/.461 and defensively shut down opponents' running games, throwing out 38.8% of would-be base stealers, while having only 1 error and 3 passed balls all season. The Chanticleers were led in part by Bodine to an impressive 56-13 record on the year, which included a trip to the College World Series Championship.
