Men’s Tennis Drops Spring Break Finale at St. John’s, 5-2

QUEENS, N.Y. – In a rematch of last year's BIG EAST Tournament Finals, the Creighton men's tennis team came out on the wrong side of a 5-2 decision at St. John's on Friday afternoon in Queens, N.Y.
The loss dropped the Bluejays to 10-7 on the year and 2-1 in BIG EAST play, while the Red Storm improved to 11-2 overall and 3-0 in league action.
St. John's stormed out to an early lead, claiming wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles positions. The dup of Adam Groves and Semen Agynskyy opened doubles with a 7-6 victory on the No. 2 court, before Sergej Zivkovic and Taichi Wakamatsu clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 victory at the No. 3 doubles spot.
Creighton immediately responded with a Jack McMahon straight sets victory on court No. 6 before the Johnnies restored a 2-1 lead with a 6-1, 6-1 victory on the No. 3 singles court. The Bluejays answered once again with a straight sets win from Kirtan Patel at the No. 2 singles spot to level things up at 2-2. St. John's Radomi Tomic, however, delivered a 6-4, 6-3 straight sets win at the No. 5 singles position to regain a 3-2 lead for St. John's.
Armondo Sotelo would then seal the victory with a 7-6, 5-7, 11-9 thrilling three-set win on the No. 5 singles court, before Zivkovic added an addition win on the top singles court to secure the 5-2 victory.
Creighton will return to action on Friday, March 20 when they take on crosstown rival Omaha at 7 p.m. at the Miracle Hills Tennis Center.
