OMAHA, Neb. – Behind a second half goal from senior Olivia Duray and a solid performance from junior Morgan Paley in goal, the Creighton women's soccer team battled Providence to a 1-1 draw in the BIG EAST opener on Saturday afternoon in Omaha.

Saturday's result moved Creighton to 4-3-2 on the season and 0-0-1 in BIG EAST play, while the Friars picked up their seventh draw of the season to move to 2-1-7 overall and 0-0-1 in league action.

Providence came out of the gates firing on all cylinders, creating scoring opportunities early and often. Less than 10 minutes into the contest, the Bluejays were called for a foul in the box, giving Providence a chance to take an early 1-0 lead. Paley, however, made an incredible diving save and smothering a second chance opportunity from Jocy Koffi to keep the Friars off the scoreboard.

Providence, however, would break through in the 25th minutes (24:42) as Koffi found the back of the net for the sixth time this season. Set into motion by a long entry pass from Stephanie Schoeley, Koffi raced in and slotted her third shot of the afternoon passed the outstretched reach of Paley to give the Friars a 1-0 advantage.

Trailing 1-0 at half, Creighton coming out of the break as the more aggressive team and found a quick equalizer from Duray in the 49th minute (48:47) of play off a set piece for the second consecutive match. The Woodridge, Ill. native finished off a series of passes from Olivia Sides and Taylor Yablonski for her team-leading third goal of the season.

With less than 10 minutes remaining in the match, Creighton looked to have taken a 2-1 lead on second set piece goal from Anna Bragg, but the score was waived off as the Bluejays were whistled for a foul.

Providence closed the match with an 11-5 lead in shot, while Creighton held a 6-3 edge in corners created. Paley, meanwhile, finished the day with a career-high four saves in the draw.

Creighton returns to the pitch on Wednesday, Sept. 30 for a Kids Day match against Villanova at 11:00 a.m. in Omaha.
