At Creighton, Anderson is the primary contact for men's basketball, volleyball, cross country, track and golf. In his role, Anderson is responsible for all media guides, game programs and news releases while also coordinating press conferences and interviews for those sports. Additionally, Anderson plays a key role in maintaining Creighton's official athletic website at http://www.gocreighton.com, as well as social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, Instagram and YouTube.
Anderson's work in 2002-03 coincided with the Creighton men's basketball program return to the top-25 rankings for the first time in nearly 30 years, as the team eventually reached as high as ninth in the coaches poll. Along the way, Anderson helped direct the promotional campaign for National Player of the Year finalist Kyle Korver, who was lauded by Dick Vitale as his Midseason National Player of the Year.
Anderson also coordinated all publicity efforts for Doug McDermott, the first basketball player in CU history to earn First Team All-America honors from the USBWA, AP and NABC. McDermott was named Midseason National Player of the Year by Jay Bilas, Mike DeCourcy and Len Elmore in 2011-12. McDermott was again named a First Team All-American by multiple organizations in 2012-13 while becoming a finalist for the National Player of the Year award. In 2013-14, McDermott swept all 14 National Player of the Year awards and also appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated after becoming the eighth player in NCAA history to reach 3,000 career points. He would go on to be the 11th player selected in the 2014 NBA Draft.
In addition to Korver and McDermott, Anderson has also worked directly with College Sports Communicators Academic All-Americans Brody Deren, Michael Lindeman, Emily Greisch, Megan Bober, Anthony Tolliver, Jaali Winters, Tyler Clement, Taryn Kloth, Brittany Witt, Nick Monkemeyer, Abby Bottomley, Kendra Wait, Katherine Lemke, Boston Small, Kiana Schmitt, Norah Sis and Steven Ashworth.
The Bluejay men's basketball team has won 18 or more games all but one season and reached the postseason all but twice since Anderson's arrival, including the top 22 single-season attendance marks in school history at CHI Health Center Omaha. He's worked with players that have earned six Conference Player of the Year accolades, seven Defensive Player of the Year awards, four Sixth Men of the Year, four Freshmen of the Year, two Newcomers of the Year, eight players that reached the NBA, six men who competed in the Three-Point Contest at the Final Four, four student-athletes who played for Team USA, one with Team Canada, one with the Uganda National Team, one with the Georgia National Team and one member each from the the Venezuelan Olympic Basketball Team and US Beach Women's Volleyball Team.
As volleyball SID, Anderson has also worked with one of the nation's best programs, including the 2009 move to the Wayne & Eileen Ryan Athletic Center and the 2010 team that received the program's first NCAA Tournament bid. Among the student-athletes he has worked with are 29 different women who have been named First Team All-Conference, as well as 11 Conference Tournament MVP's, five Conference Players of the Year and five Conference Freshmen of the Year. He also nominated the program's only 11 College Sports Communicators Academic All-Americans. Kelli Browning would earn Third Team All-America honors in 2014 after helping the Bluejays to a sweep of BIG EAST regular-season and tournament crowns. The 2015 team reached the program's first Sweet 16 in school history, led by BIG EAST Freshman of the Year Jaali Winters, who would earn third-team All-America honors from the AVCA at year's end. The 2016 club advanced to the program's first Elite Eight, reaching the top-10 in the AVCA rankings for the first time, as four different women earned All-America honors. Volleyball coach Kirsten Bernthal Booth was named CVU.com's National Coach of the Year in 2010, she was named the CaptainU National Coach of the Year in 2012 and the VolleyballMag.com National Coach of the Year in 2016. The 2017 club was ranked every week of the season, reaching as high as seventh, while winning four different tournaments and hosting the NCAA Tournament for the first time. The 2018 edition spent 12 consecutive weeks in the top-10, featured three All-Americans, and 2019 saw National Assistant Coach of the Year acclaim for Angie Oxley Behrens. In the 2020 season that was moved to the spring of 2021, the Bluejays captured a nation-leading seventh straight BIG EAST regular-season title as well. The 2021 club won five different tournaments en route to a then-record 31 victories and hosted the NCAA Tournament for the third time. Norah Sis was named VolleyballMag.com's National Freshman of the Year. The Bluejays won a 10th straight BIG EAST regular-season title in 2023, once again earning a national seed and hosting the First and Second Round of the NCAA Tournament. CU's 2024 team set a school-record with 32 wins while returning to the Elite Eight for the first time since 2016. Kendra Wait was named a First Team All-American by the AVCA as well as College Sports Communicators, while Norah Sis was also recognized by both groupd. CU led the country with five All-Americans in 2024 and compiled a second straight unbeaten home season. Creighton is one of six Division I schools in the country to earn multiple Regional recognitions since 2015-16 for Sports Information in the AVCA's annual Grant Burger Media Award program.
The spring of 2022 also saw women's golfer Katherine Lemke become the program's first student-athlete to win the BIG EAST Championship and qualify for the NCAA Regionals. A year later Lemke became the nation's only Division I women's golfer to repeat as a conference champion, once again advancing to Regionals.
Anderson, himself, is no stranger to awards. In 2012-13, he was honored by Creighton University with the Division of Student Life's "Outstanding Staff Award". Creighton's sports information office was recognized as the "Best in the MVC" by league officials at the conclusion of the 2007-08 academic year, an honor they won again after the 2010-11 campaign. In June of 2024, Anderson received the College Sports Communicators 25 Year Award.
He's also worked on multiple publications that have been recognized. The 2007 volleyball media guide picked up the 2007 Viggo O. Nelson National Collegiate Media Guide Award, and saw his 2012 media guide be named the nation's best. He also designed CU's 2008 volleyball media guide that was ranked eighth-best nationally, and contributed to the 2015 men's soccer media guide that was named the nation's best. His 2008-09 men's basketball media guide was ranked ninth-best nationally, while the 2015-16 game day programs for men's basketball and volleyball were also named the nation's best, an award it repeated in men's basketball in 2016-17. In 2017-18, the volleyball gameday program was recognized by CoSIDA (now College Sports Communicators) as the nation's second-best, with the men's basketball gameday program being third-best. In 2018-19, Anderson's men's basketball game notes were voted fourth-best nationally. One year later, CU's volleyball media guide, volleyball game notes and men's basketball game notes each gained top-five acclaim. CU's 2020-21 men's basketball guide was recognized for "Best Cover". Creighton picked up three awards in 2021-22, including Best Cover (MBB Postseason Guide) and First in Nation (VB Media guide). In 2022-23 Creighton's men's basketball media guide was named fourth-best nationally, while the 2023 Volleyball media guide was ranked ninth-best in the country, and finished ahead of all other women's sports nationwide. In addition he researched a story that finished second-best in the 2009-10 CoSIDA Fred Stabley Sr. Writing Contest.
Anderson also owns vast experience working numerous championship events in a variety of roles. In 2008, Anderson served as Media Coordinator for the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament First- and Second-Round games at CHI Health Center Omaha. That field included eventual national champion Kansas, as well as Big Ten champ Wisconsin, UNLV and a high-profile USC-Kansas State contest that featured O.J. Mayo against Michael Beasley, among others. He repeated his role as Media Coordinator in both 2012 and 2015 for the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament 2nd/3rd Round games held in Omaha, and also served as Media Coordinator for the 2018 Midwest Regional that was held in Omaha and called by some the biggest sporting event in the city's history. Anderson has also worked NCAA basketball events in St. Louis such as the 2005 Men's Basketball Final Four, the 2001 and 2009 Women's Basketball Final Fours, and Men's Basketball Regionals in 2004, 2007, 2010 and 2019. In 2014, he joined the NCAA's Media Coordination staff for the Final Four in Dallas. He worked the final five rounds of the 2020 NCAA Volleyball Tournament as a timeout coordinator, and in 2021 served as part of the media coordination crew for the U.S. Senior Open at Omaha Country Club. Creighton Volleyball has hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Volleyball Championship on six occasions (2017, 2018, 2021, 2022, 2023, 2024).
Each June, Anderson works with the NCAA during the Men's College World Series to provide live internet statistics, the official box scores of the series and game notes for participating teams. The 2008 MCWS saw Anderson serve as official scorer for three games as well, while the 2011 MCWS marked the event's debut at Charles Schwab Field Omaha. In 2012, he returned as official scorer for one game of the CWS, and in 2014 served as press conference moderator following a pair of games. He is responsible for maintaining detailed stadium records for the facility, as well. Anderson has also accompanied the CU baseball team to postseason Regionals in Lincoln (2005), Fayetteville (2007 and 2025), Corvallis (2011) and Los Angeles (2012) in during his tenure.
In addition to his NCAA Basketball media coordinator experience, Anderson has also served as the media coordinator for the 2009 State Farm MVC Volleyball Tournament, as well as all or parts of the 2015, 2018, 2020 and 2022 BIG EAST Volleyball Championships.
Anderson oversees a staff that includes Glen Sisk and Patrick Davis. He also oversaw an intern program from 2002-12 that saw workers accept positions at Creighton, Cincinnati, UNLV, Memphis, Kansas, Missouri State, Ottawa (Kan.), Penn State, Bowling Green and SMU.
Anderson arrived in Omaha after 3 1/2 years in the Athletic Media Relations office at Northern Iowa. While at UNI, Anderson served as the primary contact for Panther baseball, women's basketball and the athletics website at www.unipanthers.com. With his promotion to Associate Athletic Media Relations Director in the fall of 2000, Anderson added duties as contact for the inaugural season of the women's soccer program while also handling UNI's nationally ranked volleyball program. Soccerbuzz.com named him as the country's best first-year soccer SID in 2000 and seventh-best overall.
Anderson got his start in the MVC with a 1998 internship at the Southern Illinois University-Carbondale Sports Information Office, where he worked under the tutelage of Gene Green, Bryan McGowan and Fred Huff. Anderson was contact for the MVC champion women's golf team while also working heavily with SIU track, baseball and softball.
Anderson is a 1998 graduate of the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse, where he graduated with a degree in Exercise & Sport Science-Sport Management and a minor in Business Administration. While at UW-L, Anderson spent one season as a manager with the men's basketball program before working three years in UW-L's award-winning Sports Information office. He also wrote for the school paper, The Racquet, where he served as Sports Editor his final semester on campus.
A Wisconsin native, he currently resides in Omaha.
