Former Creighton men's soccer player Jay Fitzgerald has been asked to join the coaching staff of the United States Soccer U-21 Women's National Team. One of the greatest goalkeepers in Creighton soccer history, Fitzgerald is currently the owner of JATO Athletics and is an active member of the soccer community in the Dallas-Fort Worth area.
Fitzgerald will join the U-21 Women's National Team for training in New York next month before heading to Sweden where the team will look to defend its title at the Nordic Cup.
Fitzgerald was a goalkeeper for the Bluejays from 1991 through 1995, helping guide the Bluejays to the NCAA tournament while being named the Missouri Valley Conference Defensive Player of the year in 1995. He still owns the career victories and career winning percentage record for goalies at Creighton, compiling a 53-11-4 (.809) record during his time in Omaha. His 24 shutouts also remain a school record. Since 1990, no Creighton goalkeeper has played more minutes in net than Fitzgerald.
