The Panthers (8-3-3, 0-1-1 MVC) took the lead in the first half, as they came out and controlled play in the first 45 minutes. EIU's Brad Peters scored his league-leading eighth goal of the season when he deflected a crossing pass from Mike Lewis past Bluejay keeper Matt Allen in the 37th minute. EIU out-shot the Bluejays 9-3 in the opening half, with Allen making three saves.
EIU did not back down in the second half, as their aggressive offense again out-shot the Bluejays 9-4, with Allen needing to make four more saves to keep the Panthers off the board.
The Bluejays found a hole in the EIU defense in the 61st minute, when Tim Bohnenkamp's corner kick found a wide open Tim Walters on the back post. Walters knocked in a header for his third goal of the season.
Allen's seven saves were a season-high for the Bluejay goalkeeper. CU was out-shot 20-11 on the night, but did manage to own a 4-2 shots edge in the second overtime period.
The win keeps the Bluejays undefeated against the Panthers since EIU became an MVC affiliate soccer member. CU has now won 12 straight over EIU and is 14-0-1 against the Panthers since 1996.
