Women's Tennis Falls in Season Opener at Nebraska

LINCOLN, Neb. ? The Creighton women's tennis team opened its spring season with a 7-0 loss to Nebraska at the Nebraska Tennis Center Friday afternoon.

At No. 1 doubles, Nebraska's Jana Albers and Imke Reimers defeated the Creighton duo of Lindsey Erickson and Lauren Mastro, 8-2. NU's Wiveca Swarting and Maria Ring won at No. 2 doubles, defeating Creighton's twin sister pair of Leesa and Sarah Cadwallader by a score of 8-2. The Bluejays were forced to default at No. 3 doubles due to an injury to freshman Laura Maher.

In singles, Reimers came away with a 6-0, 6-1 victory over CU's Erickson. In the closest match of the day, CU's Mastro came up just short at No. 2 singles, falling 6-3, 6-4 to Albers. Swarting was victorious at No. 3 singles, defeating CU's Sarah Cadwallader, 6-0, 6-0. Leesa Cadwalllader lost at No. 4 singles to Nebraska's Stephanie Evans (6-1, 6-1) and the Bluejays' Rachelle Shoji fell at No. 5 singles to NU's Amber Chandronnait (6-0, 6-1). Nebraska's Ring won by default at No. 6 due to Maher's injury.

Creighton's men's and women's teams will play in their home opener next Friday, Feb. 1, against South Dakota State at Hanscom Tennis Courts, with play set to begin at 7 p.m.
