
Bluejay Softball Tops Tulsa, Falls to Texas State

Laura Kratochvil drove in a run on a pinch-hit double in the second inning to give the Jays a 3-1 lead. CU added another tally in the third inning on an RBI single by Michelle Koch.
The Golden Hurricane cut CU's lead in half in the top of the fourth, but the Jays responded with a run in the fifth and two more in the sixth. Jessica Wakasugi had RBI singles in both the fifth and sixth innings, while sophomore transfer Jessi Jadlowski had a pinch-hit RBI single in the sixth.
The Jays smacked 13 hits in the victory, including two each by Wakasugi, Koch, Michelle Graner and Amanda Hess.
Tara Oltman went the distance to pick up her second win of the year. The sophomore right-hander allowed two earned runs on five hits, walked one and struck out six in the victory.
In the night cap, the Bluejays fell behind 2-0 after the Bobcats (1-2) plated a pair of runs in the second inning off of CU freshman starter Emily Humpal. Back-to-back doubles by TSU's Jenna Emery and McKenzie Baack put the Bobcats up 2-0.
The Bluejays pulled even in the fourth inning. Sophomore Kristi Meneely drew a bases-loaded walk as a pinch-hitter to drive in CU's first run of the game. Jadlowski followed with an RBI single, while McKewon was thrown out at the plate trying to score from second on the play.
The game remained tied at 2-2 until extra innings. CU took advantage of the international tiebreaker rule in the top of the eighth, as McKewon drove home the go-ahead runner Kratochvil, who had been placed at second to start the inning.
The Jays would again push across the runner placed at second, this time on a squeeze bunt by
TSU's Kristina Tello led off the Bobcat ninth with a bunt single, moving the runner to third and putting runners at the corners with no outs. The tying run crossed the plate on a passed ball and after two intentional walks loaded the bases, TSU would score the winning run on an RBI single to left.
Creighton stranded 10 runners on base in the loss, while
Offensively, Humpal went 3-for-3 at the plate and Jadlowski collected two hits in her first start as a Bluejay.
Oltman (2-1) took the loss, tossing 3.2 innings in relief of Humpal. Oltman allowed one earned run, walked two and struck out four in the game. Humpal lasted four innings, allowed four hits, two earned runs, walked two and struck out four in her first collegiate start in the circle.
The Bluejays return to action at the UC Riverside Tournament next weekend in
