Softball Set to Host Third Annual Hit-A-Thon on Sept. 11

OMAHA, Neb. – Led by fourth year head coach Krista Wood, Creighton softball fans can get its first look at the 2025-26 Bluejays as well as the brand new softball complex as the Creighton Softball team hosts its third annual Hit-A-Thon fundraiser on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
The Hit-A-Thon is an initiative designed to raise funds for program enhancements that includes equipment upgrades, increased travel budgets and community outreach opportunities. In the Bluejays two previous hit-a-thons, the softball team raised more than $85,000 and has set a lofty goal of raising $50,000 for the softball program this season.
During this year's event, each player will get pledges from individuals in the community, and the players will have 10 swings to hit the ball as far as possible. The distance of the farthest ball hit is then multiplied by the amount of your pledge. For example, if a ball is hit 250 feet and a donor pledges $1 per foot, then the donation would be $250. Flat donations will be accepted as well.
Coach Wood has stacked her lineup once again with big-time power hitters as head volleyball coach Brian Rosen and men's basketball guard Ty Davis make their first appearance in the Bluejays Hit-A-Thon festivities. In addition, softball alumni Cayla Nielsen and Sam (Alm) Headley, as well as women's basketball assistant coach Mike Jewett, women's tennis head coach Tom Lilly, rowing head coach Dan Chipps, Cross Country/Track head coach Chris Gannon and women's soccer assistant coach Scott Rissler have all been signed to a one-day deal that will allow them to swing for the fences.
The general public is invited to come out and watch the Hit-A-Thon on Thursday, Sept. 11 at 5:30 p.m., but incase you are unable to attend, the event will be streamed live on YouTube with the help of the Creighton's Athletic Broadcast team at https://gocreighton.com/hit-a-thon.
If you haven't had the chance to make a pledge and would like to participate, please contact Coach Wood via email at kristawood@creighton.edu and you will be matched with a player.
