DES MOINES,
Drake (14-7, 7-3 MVC) never trailed in the game, opening on an 8-2 run. Creighton would get as close as two, down 14-12 just over nine minutes into the game, but would get no closer in the game. Drake carried a 31-25 lead into the break.
The Bulldogs' second-half surge put the game out of reach quickly, as CU came out of the locker room ice cold from the field. After Kristina Voss made the first basket of the half to draw CU within four, the Jays missed 17 of their next 18 shots. Meanwhile, Drake senior guard Lindsay Whorton made the first three attempts of the half for the Bulldogs, scoring seven points in the first 1:45 of the second half.
Drake led by 22, up 53-31 with 11:28 to play and Creighton would draw no closer than 13 points in its second blowout loss to the Bulldogs on the season.
CU was out-rebounded for just the second time in MVC play this year, as DU held the edge on the boards, 44-40. Drake shot 49.2 percent in the game, including 55.6 percent in the second half. The Bluejays shot 26.5 percent from the floor in the second half and made only 30.8 percent for the game.
Whorton scored 16 of her game-high 18 points in the second half, making 3-of-4 three-pointers in the game. Lauren Dybing added 14 points for DU, while fifth-year senior Jill Martin poured in 10 points and had 11 rebounds for her league-leading ninth double-double of the season.
Cain was the only player to score in double figures for CU, shooting just 4-for-13 from the field for her 10 points. Cain, Voss and Kelsey Woodard tied for team-high honors with eight rebounds. Neuvirth snagged seven steals in the game ? just two off the school record ? as CU swiped 12 steals and forced 16 turnovers.
The Bluejays will look to get back on the winning track when they return home to the Omaha Civic Auditorium Thursday night to host
