
Clubb Pitches Missouri State Past Bluejay Baseball

Creighton
starting pitcher Zak Moore
(2-2) turned in a solid outing, allowing only two runs on five hits in 6.2
innings. He struck out seven in the loss. T.J. Roemmich and Kevin Dooley each
recorded two outs from the bullpen.
With
runners at first and second with one out in the MSU third inning, Bluejay
shortstop Elliot Soto committed a fielding error to load the bases. The next
batter, Carlson, made CU pay with a two-run single up the middle.
The
Bluejays pulled within a run at 2-1 in the fifth inning. Senior Michael Lam drew a one-out walk and
then advanced to third on an MSU throwing error. Lam came around to score on an
RBI single by junior Darin Ruf to
center field.
Lam led off
the seventh with an infield single, but advanced no farther after a strikeout
and two flyouts. Joe Servais picked
up the second of his two hits with two outs in the eighth, but he also was left
stranded. Creighton left 12 runners on base and have now stranded 25 in the
past two games against
The Bears
picked up back-to-back doubles from Ryan Mantle and Dallas Hord in the ninth to
increase their lead to 3-1.
Creighton
threatened in the ninth, as Robbie Knight and Vicente Cafaro each
singled. After a strikeout by Ruf, Knight and Cafaro advanced to second and
third on a wild pitch. They would advance no farther, however, as senior Steve
Winkelmann flew out to left field to end the game.
Clubb
improved to 3-0 on the season, while Matt Frevert picked up his second save in
as many days with two strikeouts and the Winkelmann flyout in the ninth.
The teams
will conclude their three-game series Sunday at 1 p.m.
