OMAHA, Neb. ? Tara Oltman allowed just three hits and Bailey Dawson and Jessica Wakasugi put together a pair of fifth-inning singles to lift the Creighton softball team to a 1-0 win and the series sweep of Northern Iowa (11-16, 0-6 MVC) on Sunday afternoon at the Creighton Sports Complex. The victory moves Creighton's (25-10) winning streak to 10 games and keeps the Jays perfect in Missouri Valley Conference play at 5-0.
Wakasugi led off the fifth inning with a bunt single and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Following a walk to Jessi Jadlowski, Dawson ripped a single through the left side of the infield to plate what would prove to be the only run of the game.
The pair of juniors accounted for all four of Creighton's hits in the game, as Dawson finished 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI and Wakasugi was 2-for-2 with a pair of infield singles.
Oltman surrendered just three hits in her sixth shutout of the season to move her record to 17-4. The sophomore issued two walks and struck out four in the victory.
Ashley Lepley (6-6) took the loss for UNI, allowing just four hits and one run, while walking four and striking out two in the complete game effort.
UNI's Rachel Gerking went 2-for-2, while Stephanie Aguero logged the only other Panther hit in the game.
Creighton returns to action on Wednesday when it concludes its season-long eight-game home stand with a doubleheader against the Kansas Jayhawks. The Jays are 6-0 on their current home stand and 9-1 at the CU Sports Complex this year. First pitch for the midweek, non-conference twin bill is set for 2 p.m.
