Oltman Tosses One-Hitter in 9-0 Softball Win Over La Salle

TUCSON, Ariz. ? Tara Oltman hurled a one-hitter as Jessi Jadlowski and Laura Kratochvil smacked three hits apiece and the Creighton softball team defeated La Salle 9-0 Saturday afternoon at the Wildcat Invitational hosted by Arizona. Oltman faced just one over the minimum in the five-inning game, helping the Bluejays snap a four-game losing streak and improve to 13-9 before tonight's tournament finale against No. 7 Arizona.
The Bluejays broke a scoreless tie in the top of the third inning with a two-out rally. Jessica Wakasugi singled and then
Creighton added five runs in the top of the fourth inning. Cassidy Nee got the scoring started with a pinch-hit RBI single to drive in Jess Stigge, who was pinch-running after Kratochvil led off the inning with a single. Jadlowski then added an RBI single to put the Jays up by four. Wakasugi then smacked an inside the park home run for her first career extra-base hit. The homer drove in three runs and CU led 7-0 after four innings. Wakasugi's first 102 career hits were singles before rounding the bases on her own hit.
The Jays added two more runs in the fifth inning to push the lead to 9-0. Lau Emmsley-Chang and Jadlowski each collected an RBI with bases loaded singles.
While the Bluejay offense snapped out of its recent funk, Oltman (8-4) was outstanding in the circle. The sophomore right-handed allowed just a fourth-inning single in the complete game shutout. She hurled five innings and faced just 16 batters, striking out five in her fourth shutout of the season.
Gina Massaro (1-3) allowed 10 hits in the loss for
CU collected 12 hits in the victory, led by Jadlowski and Kratochvil's three each. Jadlowski finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored. Kratochvil was 3-for-3 with a run scored. Eadus and Wakasugi each went 2-for-3 in the game.
The Bluejays play their final game of the Wildcat Invitational tonight against No. 7 Arizona with a 7 p.m. (CST) first pitch.
