CARBONDALE, Ill. - After battling to win a 1-0 pitcher's duel in game one of Saturday's doubleheader, Creighton's offense came to life in the nightcap, topping Southern Illinois 9-2 to move to 34-13 overall and remain in first-place at 12-2 in the Missouri Valley Conference. Amanda Hess picked up her first MVC win of the season with a complete game effort in the circle.
Jessi Jadlowski coaxed a leadoff walk to start the game and moved to second base on a sacrifice bunt. She would score the first run of the game on an RBI single by Michelle Graner. TJ Eadus, who was dropped down to the fifth-spot in the order for game two, made the coaching decision look good as she crushed her league-leading 11th home run of the year over the center field fence. The long ball snapped a 12-game homerless streak for Eadus, the longest drought of her CU career.
SIU (24-18, 10-6 MVC) responded with one run in the bottom of the first on an RBI single by Katie Wagner.
CU added four runs in the second inning, as SIU starter Nikki Waters (12-10) was pulled from the game after her first two pitches of the inning were called illegal, following a first-inning which yielded more than a handful of illegal pitches from the freshman hurler.
Reliever Katie McNamara inherited a 2-0 count and walked Michelle Koch to start the four-run second for the Jays. Jessica Wakasugi followed with a walk and the pair moved up a base on a sacrifice bunt by Liz McKewon. With two outs, Bailey Dawson lined a double over the center fielder's head to plate the first two runs of the inning. Sinkler then smacked her MVC-best 13th double of the season to drive inDawson and Sinkler would score on an RBI single by Eadus to put the Jays up 7-1 after two at bats.
CU tacked on an unearned run in the third to go up by seven. Wakasugi reached on an error by SIU shortstop Becky Wegmann. The CU center fielder then stole second base and moved to third on a wild pitch before scoring on a pinch-hit RBI sacrifice fly from Hess. The RBI was the first of the year for the senior.
SIU added a single tally in the fourth inning on a solo home run by Lauren Haas, her fifth home run of the season.
Michelle Koch's solo home run to lead off the seventh inning concluded the game's scoring. The round-tripper was Koch's fourth of the season, a career-high for the sophomore.
The win for Hess was her first since March 18 as she evened her record at 5-5 on the season. The right-hander allowed six hits and two earned runs, while she struck out seven to go along with no walks in the game two win.
Eadus finished game two 3-for-4 with three RBI from her new spot in the order. Dawson smacked two doubles to finish 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Koch and Wakasugi both scored two runs each in game two.

Creighton, which has topped SIU five straight times, will look for its first regular-season sweep of the Salukis since 2001 on Sunday when the teams meet at noon to conclude the three-game series.
