Women's Soccer Falls 2-0 to Iowa

IOWA CITY, Iowa - The Creighton women's soccer team fell 2-0 to Iowa Sunday afternoon at the Iowa Soccer Complex. The loss was the third in the last four games for the Bluejays.

The Bluejays were unable to capitalize on a prime scoring chance in the 76^th minute, as Marcy Gans sent a penalty kick wide. Gans was 1-1 in those situations coming into the game, scoring the game winner against UC Riverside on a penalty kick earlier this season (Aug. 29).

Iowa scored a goal in each half. The first came in the 10th minute when Alyssa Cosnek, netted her fourth goal of the season. The Hawkeyes capped their scoring in the 49^th minute as Keli McLaughlin took a long pass from teammate Stephanie Hylink, to score for the third time this season.

Creighton is now 1-14-0 the last 15 times it has surrendered two or more goals. Its lone win during that time came this year against South Dakota State, winning 3-2 in double overtime on Aug. 24.

Creighton lost for the first time this season when limiting the opposition to less than seven shots on goal. Iowa was only able to launch four shots at the net.

Creighton head coach Bruce Erickson felt the difference in the game was Iowa's ability to finish its chances. “They had about three real good opportunities, and capitalized on two of them. We had five or six good chances, and weren't able to finish any of them. At the end of the day, that ended up being the difference.”

The Bluejays will return home to start a four-game home stand beginning Friday at 7:00 p.m. against Stephen F. Austin. Creighton will welcome in Northern Illinois next Sunday at 1:00 p.m.
