Omaha, Neb.- The women's soccer defeated Stephen F. Austin 2-0 Friday night at Morrison Stadium, for its 200th win in program history.
The Bluejays were all tied up with the Ladyjacks after a half, 0-0, before coming on strong in the second. Shawn Magrum opened up the scoring in the 55th minute scoring off a Lindsay Vaught corner. The goal was Magrum's second of the year, and the second assist on the year for Vaught.
Creighton capped its scoring seven minutes later, scoring off another corner kick. Marcy Gans put home her fifth goal of the year off the assist from Mary Zapapas. With the goal, Gans moves into a tie for fourth place on the all-time Bluejay scoring list with 70 career points, while also moving into third place by herself for career goals with 28.
In goal, Kristen Casey notched her 15th career shutout, turning away five Ladyjack shots on the night. The shutout was also her 13th at Morrison Stadium, extending her career lead in that category.
Creighton was helped out in the second half by launching eight corner kicks, giving the team 11 corners for the game. It was the most taken by the Bluejays this season, who led the Missouri Valley Conference in that category coming in, with 5.50 corners per game.
Creighton head coach Bruce Erickson shared his thoughts on the significance of the 200th win in program history. "Anytime you're talking about wins of that number, everybody in the program contributes. It's a testament to where the program's been and where it's headed."
The win moved the Bluejays to 5-0-0 at home this season, and 11-1-1 in their last 13 home games overall.
Creighton will continue its four-game homestand Sunday at 1 p.m. against Northern Illinois at Morrison Stadium.
