
Bluejays and Aces Play to 1-1 Draw

EVANSVILLE, Ind. - Freshman Dion Acoff scored in the 25th minute to give the Creighton men's soccer team an early lead, but Evansville answered with a goal in the 37th minute to even the match. The game would end in that 1-1 score. CU falls to 5-3-3 on the year and 3-2-2 in Missouri Valley Conference play.
The Bluejays dented the scoring column first with Acoff's first career goal at the 24:02 mark. The freshman scored from close range when he put the ball in the back of the net off of a crossing pass from Chris Schuler. Ethan Finlay was also credited with an assist on the score.
Evansville answered at 36:25 when Dan Gibson put in his own rebound after a saved penalty kick. Bluejay goalkeeper Brian Holt was issued a yellow card to set up Gibson's penalty kick and ensuing rebound goal.
The physical match featured nine yellow cards, including a caution issued to Evansville's Tom Irvin just 38 seconds into the match. The Aces were issued the first four yellows of the match, while Creighton was carded the final five times in play. CU was whistled for 16 fouls total, to Evansville's 13.
Creighton was out-shot 18-14 in the match, while the Jays took just one shot after regulation and none on goal.
Holt finished with five saves in the draw, including one in each overtime frame.
The Bluejays continue their three-game MVC road trip on Wednesday when they play at Bradley.
