KANSAS CITY, Mo. ? Kyla Hoskins posted two goals as the Bluejay women's soccer team used two quick strikes in the second half to spoil UMKC's home opener, topping the Kangaroos 3-0 Sunday evening at the Durwood Soccer Stadium and Recreational Field.
?
The shutout was the fifth straight (dating back to last season) by the vaunted Jays defense. Opponents have not scored a goal in over 550 minutes (554:50) and the five game shutout streak is the longest since 1990 when that Bluejay team also posted five straight.
?
The Jays opened the scoring at just under 14 minutes into the contest on Hoskins first goal. Hoskins' shot was deflected by UMKC keeper Jami Finnell, but still found the back of the net to put the Jays up 1-0.
?
The Jays controlled the first half by holding a 12-2 advantage in shots, but only came away with the one tally as they headed into the half. Hoskins and Beth Fyles would quickly give them a comfortable cushion as the two scored at 18 seconds and 44 seconds of the first half respectively.
?
Hoskins recorded her second goal on a crossing pass from the right side of the field by Fyles. Fyles then notched her second goal of the season, dribbling in on her own from 25 yards out and finishing the run to make it 3-0 Jays.
?
Alicia Montgomery started in the nets and stopped three UMKC shots for her third shutout in four starts this season. Her scoreless streak is up to 501:04 as she now has four shutouts in six career starts.
?
The Jays will be on the road again Tuesday for a non-conference tilt with North Dakota State. Kickoff is scheduled for 4:00 p.m.
