Women's Tennis Trumps UMKC, 5-2

OMAHA, Neb. - Creighton (2-4) earned four of the first five points on the evening, taking a 5-2 victory over UMKC (0-5), Friday night at the Hanscom Indoor Tennis Center.
Kelsey Schmidt and Anna Kirshenbaum got the Jays on the right track, topping Jessica Ball and Susan Lizenby at No. 2 doubles, 8-3. Tess Reddin and Lindsey Erickson clinched the point for the Jays with a win at No. 3, 8-6, over Laura Bouet and Jillian Yakominich. Leesa and Sarah Cadwallader capped a doubles sweep, with an 8-6 win at No. 1 over Eva Dalvai and Chelsea Horner.
Kirshenbaum kept the wins coming for CU, as she earned a 6-1, 6-3 victory over Chelsea Horner at No. 2, but Bouet responded, putting a tally in the point column for the Roos, with a 6-1, 6-2 win over Lauren Mastro at No. 3. Schmidt nullified the UMKC victory, taking a 6-3, 6-2 win over Lizenby at No. 4.
The Jays clinched the dual in the next match, with a 6-4, 6-2 Reddin victory over Dalvai at No. 1. Mary Pat McMullan posted a 6-2, 6-2 victory over Ball before Yakominich topped Erickson, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 5 in the evening's final match.
The Jays will take eight days off before heading to Milwaukee for two dual next weekend. CU will take on Wisconsin-Milwaukee on Saturday and UW-Green Bay on Sunday. Saturday's contest will be at 7:00 p.m. and Sunday's will start at 9:00 a.m.
