PEORIA, Ill. - The Creighton women's tennis team snapped a three-game losing streak on Sunday, as the Jays cruised to a 6-1 win over Bradley at the Markin Tennis Courts.
Creighton (11-7, 1-4 MVC) started the day by tallying the doubles point with two wins. CU's No. 1 team of Kelsey Schmidt and Anna Kirshenbaum defeated Bradley's (5-13, 0-5 MVC) Nicole Miller and Emily Regenold, 8-4. Tess Reddin and Mary Pat McMullan clinched the point with an 8-0 shutout of Brigitte Graf and Kennedy Scott at No. 3.
Sandwiched between the wins was a Bradley victory at No. 2, as Kelly Donohue and Jessica Buterbaugh topped Leesa and Sarah Cadwallader, 8-4.
It was all Creighton in singles as well, as they took five of the six matches. Reddin took a 6-3, 6-7, 1-0 victory at No. 1 over Miller to start and Kirshenbaum posted a 6-2, 6-2 'W' over Regenold at No. 2.
Lauren Mastro clinched the win at No. 3 with a 6-2, 6-3 victory over Donahue. The Jays weren't done, however, as Schmidt topped Butterbaugh at No. 4, 6-2, 6-1. The Braves took their only victory at No. 5, as Scott topped Lindsey Erickson, 7-5, 4-6, 1-0, but McMullan sent the Jays out on a high note, thumping Graf, 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6.
The Bluejays will wrap up their regular season next weekend at home with matches against Evansville and Southern Illinois on Saturday and Sunday. Match times are scheduled for 1 p.m. and 9 a.m. respectively.
