OMAHA, Neb. - With the dual and Creighton's nine-match win streak hanging in the balance, it was Drake's Manca Krizman who delivered.
Krizman took three of the last four games from Tess Reddin in the third set of the final match, to give Drake (6-7, 1-1 MVC) a 4-3 women's tennis victory over Creighton (10-5, 0-2 MVC), Saturday afternoon at the Koch Family Tennis Center.
The win ended Creighton's nine-match winning streak, as the Jays suffered their first loss since Feb. 6.
Krizman won the first set of the match, 7-5, before Reddin sent it to a third with a 6-2 victory in the second. With the third set tied at 3-3, Krizman surrendered just one more game to give the Bulldogs the win.
The Jays started the dual by rallying for the doubles point after dropping the first match. Leesa and Sarah Cadwallader fell at No. 1 to Krizman and Gabriela Demos, 8-2.
The Jays posted the last two doubles victories, starting with a win at No. 2 by Anna Kirshenbaum and Kelsey Schmidt, as they topped Jessica Aguilera and Amanda Aragon, 8-2. Reddin and Mary Pat McMullan then clinched the team point with an 8-5 over Earlynn Lauer and Jessica Labarte.
Singles play was back and forth, as the Bulldogs took the first three matches. Demos topped Kirshenbaum at No. 2, 6-0, 6-2, Aguilera swept Lauren Mastro, 6-3, 6-2 and Labarte capped the run with a 6-3, 6-1 over Schmidt to give DU a 3-1 lead in the dual.
No. 5 and No. 6 singles pulled the Jays even with Drake at 3-3, setting up Reddin's match at No. 1. Lindsey Erickson handled Aragon with ease, 6-1, 6-1 and McMullan got past Lauer, 6-3, 6-4 at No. 6.
The Jays will continue with MVC play on Sunday, as they host Northern Iowa. Game time is slated for 10:00 a.m. back at the Koch Family Tennis Center.
