DEKALB, Ill. - The Creighton women's soccer team came up short in their first road game of the season. The Jays lost 1-0 on a penalty kick in the 67th minute by Kelsey Passaglia. It is the second time in as many games that Passaglia has scored the game winner. The Jays had six shots in the game, with just one being on goal. The Jays are now 0-1-1 on the season.
In another hard fought battle, the Jays continued to fight but were not able to put a ball in the back of the net to even the score out. Creighton and Northern Illinois combined for just 16 fouls, a smaller number compared to the 42 last Friday.
"This game was another physical game," said head coach Bruce Erickson. "It was an unfortunate penalty kick, but we had plenty of time to respond and we didn't."
Creighton was outshot in the game 12-6, but the Jays only managed one shot on goal. Andrea Zuniga, Beth Fyles, Shonna Fraser, Erin Gunther, Macy Mauer and Laura Nasseri each had a shot in the game, but only Zuniga recorded one on goal. It was the second game in a row that Brittney Neumann didn't take a shot in the game.
Goalkeepers Alicia Montgomery and Katie Jo Swanson split time in the net, each recording one save in the game. Montgomery takes the loss in the match, as the penalty kick came in the second half.
Erickson was still pleased with the way the team played on Monday evening. "We will just have to keep working hard. It was a much better performance by our girls than Friday night. We need to keep our heads up and continue to improve."
