Creighton and Iowa State played scoreless, physical soccer through a majority of the first half. The Jays applied the offensive pressure throughout the half, including a three minute span from 14:48 through 17:52 when Creighton had four shots (one shot each by Andrea Zuniga, Brittney Neumann, Kelly Connolly, and Lauren Cingoranelli.)
The best scoring chance for the Jays came in the 33rd minute when Erin Gunther took a dead ball shot from 30 yards out. The shot was blocked by an Iowa State player, but Emily Orbell fired back at the net. Cyclone goalkeeper Maddie Jobe dove and made a save on the right side of the net.
The only score of the half came in the 41st minute of the half. Iowa State got on the board when Creighton defender Claire Zach was whistled for a tackle from behind in the box. ISU freshman Caitlin Graboski took the penalty shot and slid it in the lower left corner of the net.
Creighton recorded 11 shots in the first half, with four being on goal. Erin Gunther led the way with four shots in the first half. Iowa State took six shots in the half, with four on goal. Bluejay goalkeeper Alicia Montgomery had three saves in the half.
The physical play kept up in the second half, but neither team could put the ball in the back of the net. The match had 21 combined fouls, with the Jays accounting for 12 of them. The Jays took seven shots on goal, with Neumann leading the way with three.
Creighton had two nice drives in the half but couldn't capitalize. Neumann had two break away attempts, one on a long ball down field from Macy Mauer that Neumann caught up to and shot right into the arms of Maddie Jobe.
Creighton returns to action Tuesday, Sept. 7 when it hosts North Dakota State at 6 p.m. The Jays are 3-2-0 all time against the Bison.
