
Women's Tennis Defeats Southeast Missouri State 6-1

CARBONDALE, Ill. - In the second match in as many days, the Creighton women's tennis team split their record on the weekend, picking up a 6-1 win over Southeast Missouri State (2-13). The Jays (11-6, 1-2) will play one more match tomorrow, hoping to head home with a 2-1 advantage on the weekend.
The Jays won two of three in doubles play, taking the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. In No. 2 doubles, Kelsey Schmidt and Mary McMullan defeated Ashton Hartley and Lauren Schaper 8-1. Sarah Cadwallader and Leesa Cadwallader won the No. 3 doubles by default. In the No. 1 doubles, Nikole Novikova and Elizabeth Nyenwe defeated Anna Kirshenbaum and Analese Snyder 8-1, although the Jays got the doubles point with the two-out-of-three wins.
All of the singles matches were finished in straight sets, with none going to the third set. In No. 1 singles, Novikova defeated Kirshenbaum 6-0, 6-0. Schmidt played in the No. 2 singles due to an illness to Snyder. Schmidt defeated Nyenwe 7-6, 6-4. In No. 3 singles, McMullan defeated Hartley 6-1, 6-0.
The No. 4, 5 and 6 singles were all shut outs, with the Jays on the winning side. Lauren Mastro defeated Schaper 6-0, 6-0 in the No. 4 singles. Sarah Cadwallader defeated Sarah Pettigrew by the same 6-0, 6-0 score, and Leesa Cadwallader won the No. 6 singles by default.
