TEMPE, Ariz. - Arizona State All-American Katelyn Boyd homered in her first two at bats and drove in seven runs Tuesday night at Farrington Stadium as the fifth-ranked Sun Devils defeated Creighton 12-3 in six innings for their 17th straight win. Bluejay freshman Bri Lingl hit her first career home run to provide a pair of runs for Creighton in the loss.
Boyd picked up right where she left off against the Bluejays on Sunday. The All-American shortstop hit a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth inning against the Jays on Sunday afternoon to give ASU a 3-1 extra-inning win. Tuesday night she hit her team-leading eighth home run of the season to start the game against Bluejay starter Becca Changstrom. Elizabeth Caporuscio also homered in the bottom of the first for the Sun Devils to put the home team up 2-0 after one.
Creighton (8-7) would tie the game in the top of the second inning. Sophomore Alexis Cantu walked to leadoff the inning and Lingl followed with her first home run as a Bluejay to tie the score at 2-2.
Changstrom nearly worked around consecutive ASU singles to leadoff the second inning, but couldn't escape the inning unscathed. After the Sun Devils put the first two runners on base, the sophomore right-hander struck out Christina Zambrana and Talor Haro to bring up Boyd with two on and two outs. Boyd homered in her third straight at bat against Changstrom to give Arizona State a 5-2 lead.
Ellen Homan led off the sixth inning with a single to left field off of the third ASU pitcher of the game, sophomore All-American Dallas Escobedo. Cantu walked and with two outs, Ashley Frutos delivered a single to center field to drive in Homan and cut into the ASU lead.
The Sun Devils (21-2) responded to CU's run in the top of the sixth, with a seven-spot in the bottom of the frame to hand the Bluejays a 12-3 run-rule loss. Boyd's bases loaded double with two outs ended the game.
Brittany Telecky relieved for Changstrom in the third inning and worked around four walks to pitch 2.2 scoreless innings of relief, allowing just one hit to the high-powered Sun Devil offense. Changstrom (3-4), re-entered in the sixth inning, and finished the game allowing eight earned runs in 2.1 innings pitched.
Hillary Bach pitched two scoreless innings of relief to improve to 9-0 on the season for the Sun Devils.
The Bluejays return to the field on Friday when they play a pair of games at Arizona State's Diamon Devil Invitational. CU faces New Mexico State and Pacific on Friday morning in Tempe.
