OMAHA, Neb. - Becca Changstrom fired her second shutout of the weekend as the Creighton softball team blanked Indiana State 4-0 to finish off a sweep of the visiting Sycamores at the CU Sports Complex Sunday afternoon. The sophomore right-hander allowed just four singles to help the Bluejays capture their sixth straight victory.
In a battle of staff aces, Changstrom and Sycamore left-hander Lindsey Beisser kept the game scoreless until the bottom of the fourth inning. The Jays took advantage of walks issued to Alexis Cantu and Amy Baker in their half of the fourth to score the first two runs of the game. With two outs and pinch-runner MaKenzie Michael at third and Baker at second base, Brittnie Kreiser delivered in the pinch for the third time this week. Kreiser sent the first pitch she saw back up the middle for her third pinch-hit of the week, scoring both runners to provide all the offense Creighton would need on the day.
The Bluejays (17-13, 6-3 MVC) tacked on a pair of insurance runs in the fifth inning, the first coming on an RBI double from Cantu. Baker's RBI single concluded scoring in the game, giving her a league-best 38 RBI on the spring.
Meanwhile, Changstrom kept the Sycamores off the scoreboard for the second straight day, scattering four singles to the visitors. The sophomore right-hander walked three and struck out eight to move her record to 9-7 on the season.
Beisser (5-11) suffered her third loss of the weekend, allowing four runs (two earned), on five hits. The left-hander walked four and struck out five for the Sycamores (12-18, 0-9 MVC).
Baker went 2-for-2 with a walk, run scored and RBI in the game, the only Bluejay with multiple hits in the contest. She finished the ISU series 4-for-6 with five RBI.
Creighton will look to add to its winning streak when it plays a doubleheader at South Dakota State on Tuesday at 3 pm. The Jays then host a rescheduled game against Iowa State on Wednesday at 5 pm at the CU Sports Complex.
