Men's Tennis Falls in Final Regular Season Match

OMAHA, Neb. - The Creighton men's tennis team wrapped up regular-season play on Friday afternoon, falling 7-0 to the Wichita State Shockers. The Bluejays end the regular season 9-9, 0-5 in conference play while the Shockers improve to 15-4, 4-0 in MVC play.
J.T. Christian and Elliott Baker teamed up to post the lone win for the Bluejays on the afternoon, defeating Juan Estenssoro and Erick Reyes 8-6 at the No. 3 position. Matheus Pereira and David Cavalcanti defeated Billy Paluch and Kyle Obermeier 8-4 at the No. 1 doubles, with Guillermo Nicol and Tomislav Gregurovic downing Ryan Norman and Sean Mathison 8-1 in the No. 2 doubles.
The Shockers took all six singles matches in straight sets. Pereira defeated Paluch 6-2, 6-1 in the No. 1 singles with Cavalcanti downing Christian 6-4, 6-0 in the No. 2 spot. Gregurovic continued with a 6-2, 6-2 win over Obermeier in the No. 3 singles.
The final three matches continued on the same pattern, with Nicol defeating Mathison 6-0, 6-1 in the No. 4 singles, Reyes defeating Gabe Nagy 6-2, 6-2 in the No. 5 singles and Estenssoro downing Baker 7-5, 6-3 at the No. 6 singles.
The Bluejays host the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament next weekend, welcoming both the men's and women's teams from The Valley. The event, set for April 27-29, will be played at the Koch Family Tennis Center, with the Hanscom Indoor Tennis Center available should bad weather arise. The event is free to the public.
