CARBONDALE, Ill. -- Senior centerfielder Christa Ruf has been named as Creighton's lone representative on the All-Tournament Team at the State Farm Missouri Valley Conference Softball Championships.
Ruf earned her spot with a dramatic three-run home run in the bottom of the sixth inning vs. Evansville in the first game of the tournament. Her third round-tripper of the season propelled Creighton into a quarterfinal round match-up with Southern Illinois.
Ruf, a member of the 2011 All-Tournament Team as well, is the 10th player in Bluejay history to be named to multiple All-Tournament Teams, and joins Melanie Dorsey (in 2004 and 2005) as CU's only outfielder to earn such an honor twice.
Illinois State senior pitcher Jordan Birch, who helped the Redbirds to their first title since 2001 with a 13-3 championship game victory, was named the tournament's Most Outstanding player.
Creighton finished 28-25-1 and will return a league-high seven all-conference players in 2013.
