Baseball Pounds Out 13 Hits to Sweep CSU Bakersfield with 10-4 Win

BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - The Creighton baseball team exploded for 13 hits in a 10-4 win over CSU Bakersfield, earning a series sweep of the Roadrunners.
Creighton moved to 3-0 following the win, while CSU Bakersfield fell to 0-3.
It took the Bluejays a turn through the lineup against Roadrunner starter Nick Rogowski, but the Bluejay bats came to life in the top of the fifth. Down 1-0 entering the inning, Creighton turned an error and four consecutive walks into a 2-1 lead. With the bases loaded, junior Reagan Fowler blasted a three-run double into right field to break the game open. A Roadrunner pitching change didn't stop the Bluejays as junior Ryan Fitzgerald plated Fowler with an RBI single to left.
Staked to a 6-1 lead, sophomore Jeff Albrecht put up his fourth consecutive goose egg after coming on in relief in the second.
The Bluejays went on to add one run in the seventh, two in the eighth and one in the ninth to secure the series sweep. Albrecht earned the win (1-0), limiting CSU Bakersfield to two hits in 4.1 innings of relief.
Fowler was one of three Bluejays to close the game with three hits, posting a 3-for-5 day with four RBI and a run scored. Fitzgerald and junior Harrison Crawford each collected three hits in the contest.
The Bluejays next road trip will be the first of two in 2015 to Louisiana as Creighton battles Northwestern State (Feb. 20 & 22) and Arkansas State (Feb. 21) in weekend series.
