VILLANOVA, Pa. – The Creighton softball team fell 2-0 to Villanova in the first contest of a three-game series at the Villanova Softball Complex on Wednesday.
Creighton (15-7, 2-3 BIG EAST) struggled at the plate, producing only three hits to suffer just its second shutout loss of the season at Villanova (10-17, 2-5 BIG EAST). The Bluejays got singles from senior Liz Dike, junior Michelle Trulin and sophomore Jen Daro but could not manufacture a run against the Wildcats at their BIG EAST home opener.
CU sophomore Sydnee Eck earned the starting nod in the circle for the second straight game.
After three scoreless innings, Villanova jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the bottom of the fourth after two hits and a sacrifice bunt led to the score.
The Wildcats extended their lead in the next frame on the first career home run from Mackenzie Tilles. Her solo shot pushed the Wildcats' lead to 2-0 after five frames. That lead would hold the rest of the way to help VU clinch the series opener.
Eck dropped to 6-2 on the year with the loss.
Creighton concludes its East Coast road swing with a doubleheader at Villanova prior to Easter weekend. First pitch for the twin bill against the Wildcats is set for 11 a.m. CT on Thursday in greater Philadelphia.
