Missoula, Mont. - The Creighton women's soccer team delivered a strong effort against 2014 NCAA Tournament participant, Seattle, but fell to the Redhawks 3-2 on Friday, Sept. 11.
Suffering consecutive losses for the first time this season, Creighton dropped to 4-3 overall. Seattle, meanwhile, moved to 4-2 overall.
Down 1-0 early in the opening frame, Creighton took advantage of a corner to pull even. Junior Emily Roll sent the ball into the middle where the Redhawks attempt to clear was nabbed by freshman Emma Braasch. The Kansas native brought the ball just inside the box and fired home her third goal of the season to knot the match at 1-1.
The game remained deadlocked into the break as Seattle held a small edge in shots, 7-6.
The Redhawks regained the lead in the 65th minute as Julia Moravec fielded a crossing pass from Jennifer Plummer and sent it past Creighton keeper, Erin Scott, from 10 yards out.
Seattle pushed its lead to 3-1 in the 79th minute when Karli White redirected a ball from Plummer near the post.
Creighton rallied late in the match as sophomore Patrice Quadrel notched her first goal as a Bluejay, scoring from 10 yards away.
"Despite the loss, this was one of our best performances as a team. We showed very good effort and outworked Seattle the majority of the game," said head coach Ross Paule. "We created enough opportunities to win the game, but did not finish. Seattle is the best side we have faced. We will take a lot from this game and be better from it. This was great preparation for what we will see in the Big East."
The Bluejays return to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 13 as Creighton battles tournament host Montana at 3 pm.
