Omaha, Neb. - Junior Lauren Sullivan tallied two goals to power the Creighton women's soccer team to a 3-0 win over Northern Colorado on Friday, Sept. 18.
The win pushed the Bluejays to 6-3-0 on the year, while the Bears fell to 5-4-0.
Sullivan got Creighton going in the 55th minute, cutting across the field to grab a pass from senior Alyssa Jara. Sullivan brought the ball to just inside 25 yards and fired a shot past Northern Colorado goalkeeper Kaitlin Ruff. It was Sullivan's third goal of the season, but she wasn't done.
Just over 14 minutes later Sullivan intercepted a header from a Northern Colorado defender, then dribbled to the top of the goal box. She slammed home her second goal of the match, this one unassisted.
It was Sullivan's third multi-goal game as a Bluejay, the other two coming in 2014 against Western Illinois (Sept. 1) and at Omaha (Sept. 21).
"I'm very happy for [Sullivan]," noted Creighton head coach Ross Paule. "She has had some great chances this year and hopefully scoring a couple tonight will get her going."
The Bluejays added a third goal in the 75th minute on a corner play. Senior Jill Richgels sent a pass into the box, where sophomore Summer Khalil banged in her first goal of the year from eight yards out.
Creighton outshot Northern Colorado 24-8, including 16-3 in the second half.
Creighton returns to the pitch on Sunday, Sept. 20 as the Bluejays host Colorado State at 12:00 pm.
