Women's Soccer Upended By SDSU, 1-0

Omaha, Neb. -- South Dakota State defeated the Creighton Women's Soccer team for the first time in 11 all-time meetings with a 1-0 win over the host Bluejays on Sunday, Sept. 6 at Morrison Stadium.
Creighton entered the day 9-0-1 against its neighbors to the north from Brookings.
SDSU improves to 3-2-0, while Creighton fell to 4-2-0. It was the first home defeat in five games this season for Creighton.
The Jackrabbits broke through in the 49th minute with a score by Tori Poole for her first goal of the season. SDSU's Nicole Hatcher had the ball on the left side near the top of the box when it was sent directly to Poole who was 30 yards out in the middle of the field. Poole took one dribble before unleashing her shot past the outstretched arm of CU goalkeeper Erin Scott. It was the first goal allowed by Scott at Morrison in just more than 400 minutes (400:25) of play.
Madison Chapman had SDSU's best scoring opportunity of the first half, but the freshman's blast from 30 yards bounced off the top right corner of the post as bounced away. The Jackrabbits had a 10-2 edge in shots in the first half, including a 4-1 edge in shots on goal.
Creighton had two dangerous free kicks down the stretch. Jill Richgel's free kick from the right wing bounced around the goal mouth but was cleared with 6:30 left, while Ylenia Sachau's free kick from 27 yards out over a wall was high in the final 90 seconds.
SDSU owned a 14-9 advantage in shots overall, including a 7-3 lead in shots on goal. Scott made six saves while Nicole Inskeep made three saves for the shutout.
Creighton returns to action next Friday with a 3 pm game vs. Seattle in Missoula, Mont.
